Spoofing
Dear Valued Members of First NRV Federal Credit Union,
We hope this message finds you well.
Recently, we have become aware that some members have received phone calls from individuals falsely claiming to be representatives of our staff. These calls, made through a practice known as "spoofing," involve manipulating caller ID information to disguise the caller’s true identity. The callers may attempt to create a sense of urgency, claiming there are issues with your account or specific transactions, and request personal information for verification.
We want to emphasize DO NOT provide any personal information to these individuals. Our team will never ask for sensitive account details over the phone in such a manner.
To protect you from potential fraud, we are actively investigating the situation to ensure these scams are thwarted and to prevent any further incidents.
If you do receive one of these fraudulent calls, please take note of the following details to assist us in our investigation:
The phone number that appeared on your caller ID
The name or title of the person who identified themselves as a staff member
Any information they claimed to have or requested from you
In response to these recent events, we are implementing an added layer of security for our members. Effective immediately, we will require all members to use a secure password when inquiring about account details by phone. This will help ensure that only authorized individuals can access your account information. If you are unsure of your password, you may contact us to retrieve it as a means of verifying our staff’s identity.
With the holiday season approaching, we urge you to remain vigilant and cautious. Scammers often take advantage of this time of year, and we want to ensure your safety and peace of mind. Please remember to avoid sharing personal information through phone calls or emails, unless you have verified the request is legitimate.
At First NRV Federal Credit Union, your security is our top priority. We are committed to protecting your account and personal information, and we appreciate your cooperation in helping us achieve this goal.
Stay safe, and thank you for being a valued member of our credit union.
Sincerely,
Owen McKinnie
